This 2 part course takes place on Day 1, 8 February 2022 at 09.30 – 12.30 – 3 hours and Day 2, 22 March 2022 at 09.30 – 12.30– 3 hours
Evidence suggests that:
- there is an over-representation of children from minority backgrounds in the care system;
- professionals lack the confidence and skills to challenge basic assumptions in decision making processes;
- children who are in statutory care have poor life chances and are more likely to be homeless, criminalised and living in reduced circumstances.
Aims of the course: The 2-part course will enable participants to:
- share knowledge and reflect on current practice;
- examine the structures and systems within which care proceedings take place;
- develop care planning skills on anti-racist practice with children and families;
- have better awareness of and confidence in challenging racism and discrimination;
- challenge poor unresponsive practice;
- take personal and professional responsibility for safe practice;
- understand risk in relation to the needs of black children and families;
- ensure parents and families of black children feel included and valued;
- make achievable plans for future action;
- consider how to challenge assumptions.
