Download Event to Calendar

This 2 part course takes place on Day 1, 8 February 2022 at 09.30 – 12.30 – 3 hours and Day 2, 22 March 2022 at 09.30 – 12.30– 3 hours

Evidence suggests that:

  • there is an over-representation of children from minority backgrounds in the care system;
  • professionals lack the confidence and skills to challenge basic assumptions in decision making processes;
  • children who are in statutory care have poor life chances and are more likely to be homeless, criminalised and living in reduced circumstances.

Aims of the course:    The 2-part course will enable participants to:

  • share knowledge and reflect on current practice;
  • examine the structures and systems within which care proceedings take place;
  • develop care planning skills on anti-racist practice with children and families;
  • have better awareness of and confidence in challenging racism and discrimination;
  • challenge poor unresponsive practice;
  • take personal and professional responsibility for safe practice;
  • understand risk in relation to the needs of black children and families;
  • ensure parents and families of black children feel included and valued;
  • make achievable plans for future action;
  • consider how to challenge assumptions.
