  • Research into Guardian Practice  Joan Hunt and her colleagues at the Department of Social Policy and Social Work at Oxford University have recently published two linked studies which explored guardian practice. Understanding Variation in the Hours Guardians Spend on Care Cases was a mainly statistical analysis that looked at the reasons for variations across the country.  The work was undertaken just prior to the inception of CAFCASS.  Capturing Guardian Practice Prior to CAFCASS is based on a sample of 230 care cases, and presents a picture of what guardians do, looking at practice immediately before the creation of CAFCASS in April 2001.

Summaries of both research studies can be downloaded from: www.apsoc.ox.ac.uk/Publications_DepartmentPapers.html

A round-table seminar to launch Capturing Guardian Practice was held on 27 January 2004, hosted by the Nuffield Foundation, with a presentations by Joan Hunt, Jonathan Tross Chief Executive of CAFCASS and Alison Paddle, Chair of NAGALRO. The text of Alison Paddle’s presentation is here: NAGALRO address at Launch of Capturing Guardian Practice Prior to Practice

  • NAGALRO survey of Guardian availability - June 2003.  This survey shows that, since the establishment of Cafcass in 2001, many guardians have chosen to reduce the time they spend in the role and many others are moving out of the field altogether.  Please click on title to view the details.
