Letter to Diane Shepherd,  CAFCASS Chief Executive, dated 12th July 2001 re further application for Judicial Review
from NAGALRO Council

Dear Ms. Shepherd,

Re: THE QUEEN ON THE APPLICATION OF NAGALRO -v- CAFCASS

We enclose a letter sent today by solicitors representing NAGALRO to the Treasury Solicitor stating our intention to make a revised or further application for Judicial Review on the decision to offer only contracts of employment.

We would invite you to reconsider 'the short and arbitrary deadline', of 27th July,  which gives little time - 13 days - or less - for those who have received the contracts in the last day or two - to consider their position.  There is the basic issue of fairness and, as noted, 'the avoidance of undue pressure and the public interest in the new service making a start in an atmosphere of good will.'  The question of a further stay should be left until any decision made by the Judge on 30 July.

We trust that you and your colleagues will give full consideration to this invitation to reconsider the time scale for signing the contract of employment.

 Yours sincerely,

Susan Bindman Eva Gregory Christine Grafton

on behalf of the Council and Members of NAGALRO
